Reset Sim Cheat; Rescuing Sims when they're stuck
« on: January 08, 2010, 03:54:31 PM »
Sometimes Sims can get stuck in a place they can't get out of, an object might be stuck to your Sim or they may simply stop moving and will not respond no matter what you do.

This makes Sims unhappy. :(

There's a way to fix that. :)

First open the cheat window by holding down Ctrl + Shift + C; all three keys at once. This will pause the game and make the screen a little darker.

Now type the cheat resetSim Firstname Lastname and press enter.
You should of course use the name of the Sim that needs help. Make sure everything is spelled correctly and exactly as shown (it may be case sensitive) and remember the spaces; you won't get an error message if it's not right, it just won't work.

For example if Gobias Koffi is stuck, type: resetSim Gobias Koffi.

This will return the Sim to a "safe and neutral state" which means they will appear somewhere on their home lot with all their needs in the green. This works for all Sims, not just the ones you're controlling.
It may sometimes cancel their wishes or moodlets but it's still better than having a guitar glued to your head.

If you need to reset all Sims in your current game the code is:
resetSim *

Yeah my brother had trouble with something similar to this. He was in Egypt and was doing an adventure where he was required to get an item. He got it, and went back to the person that needed the item. He clicked the dude, chose the interaction to complete the adventure, and then stood there forever without doing anything. He called me in to ask me about it and both his sim and the npc seemed just fine. I used this cheat on the npc and redid the interaction which worked just fine this time. So just a warning to other players: Sometimes an npc seems just fine but if you can't interact with them (can't click on them/the problem my brother had), use this cheat on the npc, then your sim if it still doesn't work. By the way, if you're playing a legacy and unsure if this breaks the rules, it doesn't.

Thanks so much. I thought my legacy was going to end on the 7th generation.

{Gives you a big hug for helping}

Another website gave me the wrong information, I can't remember what website it was though.

I had an issue the night before Ambitions came out so didn't really worry about it, but I had my Sims become stuck at 0001hrs Monday morning.  I could free them using the described method but they would become stuck again.  I could reload a save from Saturday and they would be fine but then get stuck again at 0001hrs Monday again?

The game didn't slow down or anything.

This occured in the Sims home.  The first time it happened they were each stuck trying to get into bed.  They stood at the edge of the bed facing in, but the animation never started for them to get into the bed.

I had thrown 2 parties that weekend, each of my sims being the host for one of them.

You might have a corrupted file since the same thing keeps happening at the exact spot.  You could try restoring the previous save.  Click here for instructions.

Does anyone know what to do if the game does not respond to Ctrl + Shift + C ?  I've tried it several times, but nothing happens.  All my Sims became stuck at the same time - it was night, and they're all stuck in bed and won't respond to anything.  I've also had several other issues since the update.  :(

That very same thing happened to me.  They all got stuck in bed.  Best thing is to just exit the game and start again.  That worked for me.

Go ahead and start a new topic for your problem.  This isn't the best one to get specific help.

@ SonomaSim - If you are having this problem it's probably because your computer opens another program when you press the [ctrl]+[shift]+c when you are not in the game.  If this is the case it won't allow you to open the cheat box within the game.

To fix this
1. Log out of your game and go to your desktop
2. Press [ctrl]+[shift]+c to figure out what program it opens (for example - it used to open HP Health Center on my Laptop)
3. Now close the program that [ctrl]+[shift]+c opened
4. Go to start (on desktop) or to your desktop if the shortcut is already there
5. Find and RIGHT click on the shortcut that you opened in step 2
6. Click properties
7. Go to shortcut tab
8. Change the shortcut to something that's not being used like [ctrl]+[shift]+h (it will tell you if your new one conflicts with another program)
9. Don't forget to click Apply

Now go into your game and see if the cheat box will open up for you.   ;)

Not sure if this should go here or in the sims 3 console thread. This has happened to me on the PS3 where there is no cheat console. Any help?

I suggest you post this question on the Sims 3 Console board for now.
